A Psychology degree can lead to working for AmeriCorps
Americorp is a government supported agency (part of the Corporation for National and Community Service) created by President Clinton in 1993. It involves over 50,000 Americans each year. Americorps was designed to offer young workers a stipend (a set amount of money paid for services) in order to have these workers provide support to non-profit agencies, schools, public agencies, and community and faith-based groups. They cover work in education, public safety, health care and environmental protection. Members are expected to complete 1,700 hours of service, work well with others from diverse backgrounds, must be willing to work longer than an 8-hour day, and be willing to work in locations across the US. Some people mistakenly think that you just sign up for Americorps and you automatically get in--that is far from the truth. You must apply for AmeriCorp and they are quite selective about choosing who will join the organization.
